Florida Snowpocalypse 2014

Okay so it wasn't snow as much as it was ice. They pretty much shut everything down down here which kept everyone off the roads. I thought they handled it really well, even though I thought at the beginning it went a little overboard. But it was just like home, we got a lot of rain and then sleet and it all froze making for a very icy situation. Base was shut down for several days. We ventured out to get milk and bread (and eggs and 'beverages'). We stayed in the house and had family time and it was nice.

Our little snowbunny. So glad he was able to wear this outfit a couple times (even in Florida!)

Our Sago Palm in the front yard at about 4pm on the Tuesday when it started to sleet and ice over. A little sagging but doing pretty good.

The next day it was very sad:

I don't know if it's going to fully rebound. Several of the palms are dying off, browning. We had some hard freezes back in late Dec. early January that killed off some tropical plants in our back yard.

This is a tree right out front. I thought the way the ice came off the leaves was super cool. It 'dripped' off the leaves, but went 'backwards':

Well, all in all we survived and ate vegetable soup and watched TV. And, just like home, within a day it was gone and by that weekend it was around 65 degrees and sunny. The ice came in on a Tuesday, melted Thursday, and we had the doors open on Saturday.

A couple more cute ones

He's just too stinkin' cute:
(sleeping with his monkey)

Lookin' smart in his school clothes from Aunt Cathy

I see a future here:

 Loves Sonic drinks...definitely our child!

This is his Home Depot outfit. Ya know, overalls. He loves Home Depot. And the ladies at HD love him.

Owen's first cereal

SO I'm not using the blog very well for pics of Owen because it's easier to just text them out. But here are some from his first cereal eating the other night. (Thanks Auntie Falan for giving us the cereal!)

"Okay so this goes where?"

"Are you sure this is normal?!?"

"Alright I'll give in! YUM!"

Nursery

This is where Owen sleeps. The BEAUTIFUL bassinet that Grandma Cindy did up for him. MANY years ago (over 10, probably closer to 15) I found this Pooh Bear fabric and fell in love with it, bought it, and held on to it for my first baby (thinking I would do the nursery in Pooh Bear, my favorite character). Well I grew older and things changed and we decided on a motorcycle nursery. But my mom, being the ever crafty that she is, lovingly used the fabric to do up the bassinet. Isn't it gorgeous?

This is Owen's crib. the photos on the left are pictures from our motorcycle trip that I took on the bike (aka action shots). Grandma Carole & Papa Charlie made the OWEN plaques. See the Harley Bear from Grandma Carole & Papa Charlie in the crib? Grandma Cindy got us the crib and bumpers.

The changing table: Those photos are pics of Devin's bike, his tank & motor, that I filtered and had printed. Owen loves them. He stares at them all the time when we change him. I use the M basket (from Grandma Carole) to hold his laundry. I still love the wire motorcycle. The dresser is filled with clothes from Aunt Cathy & Aunt Falan.

This is from the door (crib to right, changing table to left). LOVE my rocking chair we got for $35. It's painted a distressed blue (came that way). The blanket Grandma Carole knitted is on the chair. A pic of mommy & daddy from their younger riding years ;). And the OWEN cross-stitched sampler (it is a sampler I think) from Grandma Carole on the wall. The signs on the right are vintage-y and say "Born to Ride" and "Motorhead Garage."

The dresser and chest of drawers were mine in my nursery. We've had and used them all these years. Devin is wanting to sand and stain them to match the crib...maybe they'll last another 30 years!

Just going through the nursery reminds us of how loved Owen is! All of these things that make his room HIS came from all the love of his family!

Living in FL

Sorry I haven't blogged in several months. There was that whole having a baby thing that threw me off. Anyway, I took a few minutes and took few pictures of the house so everyone could see our stuff.

This is what Devin used to wear when he went to work
This is what Devin now wears to work. He says it's very comfy.

Here are the tomato plants from the summer (they are long dead now). They finally gave up while we were home having the little guy.

I made Devin hold them up so you could see how tall they were. He's nearly 6'. Obviously they were so tall they couldn't hold themselves up and leaned over most of the time like you see in the first picture.

We battled bugs on those stinkers over and over. Creepy grub lookin' things. Anyway, we got a whopping 3 tomatoes from both plants. We had a few more that the bugs got to first. We may have had one more after these photos. My favorite was the twins. Had these two bud & grow together. Our tomatoes weren't big but that's okay, they were ours and they were delicious. We got tomatoes roadside a lot this last summer.

(Owen photobombed that picture...that's my big prego belly).

This was my autumn wreath I made. And the Christmas wreath I made and the 'winter' wreath I made.

The lemon tree; and Devin shaking the lemons off the lemon tree before we came home for Thanksgiving.

 Our little set-up for Christmas.

This is our new fish. We cooked the other one on the way home for Christmas. He was under the seat and got too much heat. Kinda a bummer because he made the trip to Florida, like, 6 times. Now we have this guy. He's red and blue and pretty.

Here's my photo wall.

Here's the desk Devin refinished. It is GORGEOUS. I'm so in love with it.

Nice little set-up here.

Thanks Pinterest! Okay, so I'm REALLY not one for those saying type things, but when I saw this on Pinterest I fell in love because of the whole Navy Aviation thing. So I made it. It says "You be the anchor that keeps my feet on the ground I'll be the wings that keep you heart in the clouds". Then I put a pic of me & Dev in his whites and Dev & Owen in their 'flight suits'. It hangs in our bedroom.

This is the headboard that Devin made. I'm so super in love with it (and with my super handy man)!

Another Pinterest: (via Martha Stewart). Idea was to embroider a trip you took on a map. SO I took a map and hand embroidered our Miles Across America trip. Then I took it a step further and surrounded it by pictures from our trip.

This is the chair we bought for Penny (back in August?) so she could sleep in the bedroom, but not on the bed, because she was sleeping on the couch. But she hates it. With a passion. It's kinda squeaky from the leather. BUT it was $35 and I actually fell in love with it too. So we're gonna keep it. It's really comfy.

Devin's FINISHED digital camouflage quilt:

And this is Penny with her, uh, er, 'stick':
See the piece of firewood in the back? Dev stacked that by the house. It was on the bottom. It was the biggest piece of firewood in the stack. She decided it was her new toy and she drug it out and plays with it, often.

32 Week Ultrasound

Ultrasound pictures of the baby at 32 weeks. The Florida Institute of Ultrasound is a school just for people to become ultrasound certified and they offer free ultrasound screenings for people 18-32 weeks pregnant. Students do the scan, looking for particular things and parts (for example, we saw his pancreas, liver, kidneys, a full bladder, 4 chambers of his heart, brain, cerebellum). They also practice by measuring him (he was measuring at 4lbs 15oz, so expect a big guy!). The instructor comes in and checks and helps the students find things, identify parts, techniques, etc. Then they also take pictures for Mommy & Daddy and print them and put them on a flashdrive so I can share with everyone.

I went on Monday, August 19th. Devin couldn't go so after the ultrasound I scheduled again for Tuesday, August 20th. He was able to go that time. So we got to go twice. I'm too big to go now.

The first picture is the one I've edited to point out the parts, then next is the original for you to see unaltered.

It's still a boy:

Side Profile:

The sweetest little face (almost looks 3D!):

Another side profile, head is still to the right side:

Foot:

He is still VERY active in true Miles' fashion. He is always kicking and twitching and throwing Mommy's belly around. He has been growing for 33 weeks now and has 7 more to go...he's starting to run out of room and we are starting to get anxious!
